Default Do you think jewel prices (rubies and sapphires) are inflated?

Or do you think they'll solidify at around 5k each, pretty much where they are now?

Out of curiosity, do they have any use outside of Vabbi 5k armor?

They'll increase. Now that Scutilla has put out a decent Armor guide, and all Vabbi armors are on Wiki, everyone will want Vabbi Armor (since most of them are pretty good, including mine). Hence, price will inflate, due to demand.

Easy way to stop inflation would be if Anet made gems drop more often than they are dropping now, or alternativly, someone knew where they drop more than in other places, thus encouraging farmers and hopefully killing the inflation.

Exactly - where DO those things drop? I've heard Wardens drop Sapphires, but I've never seen any. I've had Amber and Jade drop though, especially Jade.

It will be stable for a bit then drop. They can be salvaged for jeweled daggers (and maybe many other weapons) and it is very likely that the Djinns have a higher than usual normal drop rate. Add in that most "high end" players who want the armor are there right now, while most "low end", who will not bother (but trade in their contracts) are not there yet and the price is bound to head south soon.

I suspect the prices on jewels will drop eventually. Prices are high across the board now because of the massive demand on those armors now, at the beginning of the game, mostly populated by veteran players who are rich and bored and need something to spend their money on. As time will go buy and all of them have acquired their pretty armors, demand for jewels will drop while the supply stays the same, lowering the price.

Just to give you an idea, compare the price of Amber and Jadeite when Factions came out to its price 3 months down the line.

I think it is, but just at the moment.

The reason why is the armor is the 1.5k version in vabbi and with it's material requirements ... is more then 15k armor.

I agree with infusco

Based on the fact that gems are rare, in comparison to other rare materials such as ecto, it makes sense that their price is this high.

You can trade in 7 (?) Trade Contracts for 1 Ruby/Saphire/Diamond in Kodash Bazaar, there's always that route.

I've played since release, just about, and have never gotten a ruby or sapphire drop... 32 gems for a set of Vabbi armor? *gasp*

Seriously, I hope the drop rate from Djinns goes up.

who knows lol

Why did ecto drop so much btw? Was it because of the reduction in farming or the fact that nobody cares anymore? lol jk :P

Having already splurged money on Vabbi, I'm going the selfish route and I'm going to go on the side of "keep Vabbi 1337!!!!111"

Prices have always been high for sapphires and rubies since they are rare drops. Rarer than ectos and shards.

I'd say they are about as rare as black dye.

Now with elona monsters dropping them perhaps a little more frequently being countered by the high demand, it will probably stay more or less at its current price range.

People are liquidating their ecto reserves to buy new Nightfall stuff. It happened during Factions as well.

Peace,
